This is really only going to be significant for people in and around Los Angeles, but I figured I would pass it on:
PRESS RELEASE
DATED NOVEMBER 19, 2002
On the night of September 15th, 2002 the El Rey Theatre was shut down by the city for structural repairs. For the past three months it has been a crazy whirlwind of moving shows, giving refunds, answering questions, finding structural engineers, speaking with city, getting permits, and having lengthy conversations with insurance adjusters and lawyers.
Now, three months later we are happy to announce that The El Rey is stronger and safer then ever!! You wonÂ’t notice anything new when you enter the venue, but you will have the comfort in knowing that when you look up, nothing will come down! The whole ceiling has been retrofitted and will live on for another 100+ burly and brawny years!!
We are happy to report that the El Rey will be back in business in December 2002, kicking off with Sound Tribe Sector 9 on Saturday, December 7th, 2002.
Everyone at the El Rey wanted to take this opportunity to thank our customers, staff, Goldenvoice, independent promoters, the structural engineers, and all the people who had kind words for us during our down time.
The El Rey Theatre is here to stay and we are excited to start rolling out the killer shows once again!!
See you soon,
Rodney, Brad, Jennifer and all the gang at the El Rey
