Any music snob has read (or should read), High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. It’s one of the most fantasically funny and touching novels I have ever read. Nick Hornby is a music fan to the core. There are always references to music in his books. It just so happens that he is coming out with a collection of essays about his favorite songs and songwriters with illustrations by Marcel Dzama. The book will contain a compilation CD, including 11 songs discussed in the book. Without knowing anything more about the book, I’ve already reserved my copy.
The book is called Songbook, and will be released through McSweeney’s the first week in December. McSweeney’s books are best ordered through the net since they are hard to find in stores and usually sell out very quickly. In the spirit of the holidays, proceeds from Songbook will benefit Treehouse, a U.K. charity that helps to educate children with autism and related communication disorders, and 826 Valencia, a nonprofit writing lab based in San Francisco.
